Single Mothers: You’re Not Broken — You’re Carrying Too Much

Some days, writing this feels impossible - but the thought keeps tugging at me, so here it is.
Many of us, me included, feel like something is wrong with us. Like we should be handling life better. Like if we were stronger or more disciplined, things wouldn’t feel so heavy.
But here’s the truth: we’re not broken. We’re carrying too much.
When you’re the only adult, every decision, every plan, every possible “what if” lives in your head. Even rest requires effort. Even slowing down can feel risky. That kind of constant responsibility changes how your body and brain respond to the world.
Exhaustion doesn’t mean you’re failing. Overwhelm doesn’t mean you’re weak.
Struggling doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It usually means you’ve been strong for a long time without enough support.
One thing that’s helped me lately is letting go of the idea that I need to “fix” myself. Instead, I ask:
What would today look like if I assumed I was already doing enough?
Sometimes that means lowering the bar.
Sometimes it means leaving one thing undone on purpose.
Sometimes it just means being gentler with myself instead of pushing harder.
If you need a little extra support, that’s exactly what I’ve built into Simple Roots Co.—resources made to help single mothers carry less, not more.
You’re not broken. You’re human. You’re carrying a lot. And you're not alone.
